Commuter Transfer Students
Commuter Life Mentors encourage and guide Transfer students to excel academically and succeed during their time at SDSU.
Peer mentors can assist you with:
- Using your academic resources to empower you to build your own schedule
- Creating a sense of belonging by finding events, clubs and organizations on campus that fit who you are
- Finding internships or jobs on campus and explore different career paths for your major
- Learning new skills, building confidence, balancing school, work, and personal life
- Navigating the various resources on campus to ensure you know where to seek help when you need it

My biggest challenge transferring to SDSU was trying to acclimate from the culture of community college to a university. I was involved a lot at my community college and knew that if I put myself out there, my experience could change. I am proud of knowing that I started my SDSU experience outside of my comfort zone to obtain the experience I wanted; finding community, networking, and stability.

Lance’s advice to “transfer students is not to be afraid to be involved with any of the student organizations and clubs that SDSU has to offer. Everyone that I’ve met here has been very accommodating and welcoming. Lastly, take advantage of the number of mentorship opportunities whether it’d be for academic, career, or personal reasons.”
